Description

Original news photo capturing several members of the New York Giants warming up on the sidelines before a 1913 World Series game against the Philadelphia Athletics. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Among the players pictured warming up is outfielder Jim Thorpe. 1913 marked Thorpe's first Major League season, and images from his brief six-year baseball career are scarce. He appeared in just 19 regular-season games with the Giants during his rookie campaign, finishing the season with 1 home run, 2 RBI, and a .143 batting average. He did not see game action in the World Series, which his Giants lost in five games. The reverse bears an "Underwood & Underwood" credit stamp, an original paper news caption, and a "Central Press Association Reference Department" stamp. The photo, trimmed very slightly to its current dimensions of 10 x 8 inches, is in Very Good condition overall.
