This interleague doubleheader matched the New York Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the first game, with the winner (the Dodgers) taking on the Giants in the finale (also won by the Dodgers). The games were held to benefit the Civilian Defense Volunteer Office (CDVO), which was part of the Office of Civilian Defense. A reported 35,301 were in attendance, with advanced ticket sales generating $75,000 for the CDVO.
