Lot # 2515: 1950s "Mickey Mantle's Four Bagger" Game

Colorful standup "ball-toss" game from the 1950s measuring an impressive 22 x 34 inches and featuring a thirty-inch tall image of Mickey Mantle superimposed upon an illustrated baseball scene. Titled "Mickey Mantle's Four Bagger," the game board contains four circular cutouts (each six inches in diameter) that are backed by either green or red plastic sacks. (Please note the three green sacks are all missing from this example.) Each hole corresponds, respectively, to either a "Home Run," "Triple," "Double," or Single" as well as a certain number of points that are printed along the front. According to the original directions, which are no longer intact on the reverse, the game was played by tossing ten balls at the board, with the aim being to successfully get as many balls in the holes as possible. The player with the highest score won. The original mounting poles (which attach to the back and allow the board to stand upright by itself) and balls are not included. Manufactured by Gardner & Co., Chicago. The game is constructed of extremely thick cardboard. This is a very sturdy game intended for both indoor and outdoor use. The game displays general wear, commensurate with its age and former use, and is in Good condition.
