New York Yankees road jersey worn by outfielder Charlie Keller, circa 1947. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "12" on the reverse. All letters and numbers are appliquéd in navy felt. Keller's name is chain-stitched in navy upon a gray strip tag situated in the collar. Also located in the collar are a "Wilson" label and an adjacent "44" size tag. Keller has signed the jersey in purple marker along the front. The jersey exhibits moderate wear with scattered staining and soiling. There are three holes, two on the lower front tail and one on the bottom back tail. Please note that this jersey likely has repairs. Charlie "King Kong" Keller was one of the mainstays of the Yankees' lineup during the 1940s. Keller, who hit over thirty home runs and drove in over 100 runs on three separate occasions, helped lead the Yankees to six pennants and five World Championships during his ten seasons with the club. Keller batted .250 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI in 1949, which marked his final campaign with the "Bronx Bombers." He retired in 1952 with 189 home runs, 760 RBI, and a .286 lifetime batting average. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (signature only).
