Description

Cincinnati Reds home jersey worn by all-time hit leader Pete Rose during the 1976 season. Graded A9.5 by MEARS and photomatched by Resolution Photomatching. The white knit jersey features the club's embroidered red-and-white logo on the left breast and the number "14" on both the right breast and reverse. "Rose" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in red tackle twill. Located on the interior right front tail are a "Rawlings 44" label and two adjacent flag tags reading "Set 1" and "1976." The circular National League "Centennial" patch appears on the right sleeve. (It should be noted that the patch is an authentic example but it has been restored.) Rose has signed and inscribed the jersey in black marker on the right breast. Aside from the restored NL Centennial patch, the jersey is all original, with no other alterations. Moderate wear is exhibited throughout, including some light soiling on the front and back of the garment. In addition to its high grade, this jersey has also been photomatched by Resolution Photomatching to one worn by Rose in an image taken before a game against the Atlanta Braves in Cincinnati. The image used was likely taken during a game played on October 1, 2, or 3 of the 1976 regular season. Rose tallied 215 of his eventual record 4,256 hits in 1976 while leading the League in both runs (130) and doubles (42). He finished the year with 10 home runs, 63 RBI and a .323 average. The Reds swept the New York Yankees in four games in the 1976 World Series, thereby earning the club its fourth of five World Championships. This is an exceptional Rose jersey dating from the club's fourth championship in franchise history, that would be at home in even the most advanced collection. Graded A9.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with a half-point deducted for the restored patch). Full LOA from MEARS. Letter of Photomatch from Resolution Photomatching. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (for the signature only).
