Lifetime silver pass issued by Major League Baseball to Hall of Famer James "Deacon" White. White was one of the premier stars of the first twenty years of professional baseball, as well as one of the players in the game most well known for his strong religious beliefs and moral lifestyle (hence the nickname "Deacon"). He was a member of five consecutive World Championship teams between 1873 and 1877, and is credited with the very first hit (as well the first catch) in baseball's first all-professional game in the first National Association game in history, in 1871. Deacon White led his league in batting average twice, in RBI three times, and was considered the best bare-handed catcher of his time. Over his 20 year career, he had more RBI (988) than any player except Cap Anson. The pass reads "The National American Major Leagues of Professional Baseball Present This Lifetime Pass to Deacon White In Appreciation of Long And Meritorious Service." The facsimile signatures of both American League President William Harridge and National League President Ford Frick appear along the base. All of the text is in relief, with the exception of White's name, which has been engraved. Produced by "Lambert Bros. Jewelers. N. Y." as noted on the reverse. The pass is accompanied by its original presentation box, which has "Lambert Brothers/Jewelers/New York" printed on the lid. Also included with the box is the original presentation card bearing the names of both Frick and Harridge. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the White family. The pass (4.25 x 2.75 inches) remains in overall Very Good condition.
