One-page typed letter, dated January 22, 1923, and signed by Chicago White Sox owner Charles Comiskey. In his letter, on ornate Chicago team stationery, Comiskey responds to Hall of Famer Eddie Collins' request regarding a raise for the upcoming 1923 season. In full: My dear Friend: I am in receipt of your kind letter of January 6th and was very pleased to hear from you. Your long association and services rendered the Chicago Club have always been highly appreciated, and I think you will agree with me that you have always been accorded excellent treatment since your connection here. You indicated in your letter that your request for an increase made due to your long and continued service, as well as "numerous other reasons". I would be pleased if you would inform me as to what you have in mind as to the "other reasons." I am prepared to send you a contract for $15,000 for the season of 1923, which I trust will be satisfactory to you. Collins had another spectacular season in 1923, finishing with a .360 batting average and an American League best 48 stolen bases.
