Description

One-page typed letter dated May 16, 1923, signed by American League President Ban Johnson. In his letter, written on official "American League" letterhead to future Hall of Famer Ed Barrow, Johnson writes to Barrow, reminding him that his club (New York Yankees) must insert padding against the grandstand and behind the catcher. In full: "Dear Ed: The New York Club must place at once a heavy padding against the grandstand and in the rear of the catcher. I am surprised this has not been attended to. Mr. Evans called my attention to the matter yesterday. Will you kindly see that this is done at once, and before the return of the club." It is signed "B. Johnson" in black fountain pen. The letter (8.5 x 11 inches) displays several folds, staple holes in the upper left, and a large black check mark across the letter's content. Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
