Original cabinet photo of Hall of Fame outfielder Elmer Flick taken by noted Boston photographer Carl Horner. The formal studio photograph captures Flick posing in uniform as a member of the Cleveland Naps. Horner’s photo credit appears along the base of the mount. This photo is certainly well known to card collectors as it is the same image used in the production of Flick's 1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet card (Type 2), 1903-1904 E107 Breisch-Williams card, 1906 Fan Craze card, and his 1909-1911 M116 card. Flick's name and several editorial notations are written on the reverse. There are also a pair of date stamps (Sep 30, 1934, and Dec 30, 1941). Carl Horner was one of the preeminent baseball photographers of his era, and because Boston was home to both an American and National League franchise, he was able to capture nearly every Major League player at one time or another during the early 1900s. The photo (3.75 x 5.5 inches), which displays exceptional clarity, displays light soiling and foxing, and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. The mount (5 x 7 inches) displays minor corner wear and Flick's name written in pencil along the top border. Photos used in the production of trading cards have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially those of prominent Hall of Famers from classic issues. This is one of only a small number of original photos we have seen featuring a player image used in the 1902-1911 Sporting Life, E107, Fan Craze, and M116 issues, and the fact that it is Elmer Flick makes it one of the more significant such photos we have ever offered.
