Lot # 2300: 1932 Chicago Cubs (vs. New York Yankees) World Series Game 3 Program - Babe Ruth's "Called Shot"

Historic program from Game 3 of the 1932 World Series held at Wrigley Field in Chicago on October 1. (Please note this program was accompanied by the ticket stub from the game, which is being offered as a separate lot in this auction.) This was the game in which Ruth famously "called his shot" by pointing to the center-field bleachers right before hitting a home run to the spot indicated. While historians have often suggested that Ruth was pointing at Cubs pitcher Charlie Root and not the center field bleachers, a number of eyewitnesses, including many players, supported the legitimacy of Ruth's legendary feat. Ruth himself never admitted that he called the home run, but he never denied it either. Regardless of the true sequence of events, the "Called Shot" will always remain one of the most famous moments in baseball history. Neatly scored in pencil for Game 3 (recording Ruth’s “called shot” in the fifth inning, as well as his home run in the first inning). The program (6 x 9.25 inches) displays heavy creasing and two ink stamps ("Oct 1 - 1932") on the front cover. The date and results of the game are printed in pencil along the top edge.
