New York Yankees road jersey worn by Derek Jeter during the 2004 season. The gray knit jersey features the Yankees' "NY" logo on the left breast and the number "2" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy blue on white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a “Majestic" label, a “48” size tag, a "+2" Extra Length" tag, and a "2004" year tag. Jeter has signed the jersey in blue marker on the left breast. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays heavy wear. Jeter was an All-Star and Gold Glove winner in 2004, appearing in 154 games that year. The New York Yankees won the American League East in 2004, only to lose to the rival Red Sox in the American League Championship Series. Jeter, who was named the Yankees captain in 2003, is universally regarded as the greatest shortstop in team history. A 10-time All-Star, his numerous achievements include the 1996 Rookie of the Year Award, the 2000 All-Star Game and World Series MVP Awards (the first time a player has won both awards in the same season), five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, and, of course, five World Championships over the course of his 20 seasons. In 2009, he surpassed Lou Gehrig as the team's all-time hit leader and finished his career with 3,465 hits (sixth best all-time). He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020. This is only the sixth Derek Jeter New York Yankees game-used jersey we have offered. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Graded A5 by MEARS (no post-1987 jersey can achieve a higher grade than A5 without additional provenance).
