Press ticket stub for Game 5 of the 1918 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs held at Fenway Park in Boston, on September 10th. The 1918 Major League Baseball season was shortened by one month because of World War I. As a result, the World Series began on September 5th and is still the only World Series to be played completely in September. The Cubs defeated the Red Sox 3-0 in Game 5 as Hippo Vaughn limited the Red Sox to five hits in his complete-game victory. Despite the loss, Boston still held a 3-2 advantage in the Series, and they defeated Chicago the next day to capture their fourth and final World Championship of the decade. The ticket stub (2-1/4 x 2-7/8 inches) displays black ink notations on the front and creasing in the upper right. Good condition overall. An attractive example of this scarce stub commemorating the only World Series meeting between two of the most historic franchises in baseball history.
