Description

Extremely rare A.J. Reach Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" glove box (9 x 8.5 x 3.5 inches), featuring a full-length image of Ruth chasing a flyball in his Yankee pinstripes. Ruth's portrait also appears on two of the side panels of the box. These boxes rarely survive in any condition. This example exhibits moderate-to-heavy wear but is complete and intact, with no restoration, and displays beautifully. The box is in overall Fair to Good condition (the bottom panel of the inside shell is partially separated). The box is accompanied by the Reach glove which reads "Reach" in large type above Ruth's facsimile signature, and the identification of the model as a "Home Run Special." Ruth had an exclusive glove endorsement with Draper & Maynard from 1921 to 1927, but immediately thereafter, both Spalding and Reach began production of Ruth-model gloves. The glove is in Very Good condition. A very impressive example of one of glove collecting's greatest prizes, and an exceptionally rare and attractive Babe Ruth display piece worthy of inclusion in the many different types of world-class baseball collections (Ruth, display pieces, advertising, equipment, etc.).
