Presented is a Ty Cobb 24-count candy box dating from the 1920s. Almost all material relating to Ty Cobb's own brand of candy is scarce. This is the first example of the box we have offered in the past 22 years. The lid features the text reading "Lots of Quality Candy - for a Nickel! - Ty Cobb." The candy's slogan, "A Winner Everywhere" is printed along the base. Also noted on the lid and side panels is the name of the manufacturer: "Benjamin Candy Co. - Detroit, Mich." The box (6-7/8 x 9 x 2-3/4 inches) displays wear commensurate with its age and former use. The lid has a slight split along two flap seams. A number of small stains and abrasions are evident throughout. The bottom tray portion of the box has two pieces of gray tape on the bottom panel. A very attractive example of this seldom seen baseball confectionary box.
