In "the olden days," notebooks with stars such as Babe Ruth or Ty Cobb on their covers were very popular with youngsters at school. Offered here is an early example titled "Play Ball," featuring “Shoeless” Joe Jackson as a member of the Chicago White Sox. Jackson is pictured taking a swing in a batting cage, with his name and team affiliation printed directly below his image. Displayed beneath the larger Jackson photo are portrait images of Tris Speaker, Edd Roush, and Carl Mays. Given the players featured here, this notebook most likely dates from around 1917, when all of these players were in the prime of their careers. The notebook (7.75 x 9.75 inches), which contains 15 lined sheets of paper, displays a light moisture stain in the lower left corner of the front cover as well as light wear. In Very Good to Excellent condition. This is an outstanding example of this popular baseball notebook and one that is perfect for display.
