Original news photo of Chief Bender as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies, circa 1916-1917. Certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Bender is captured in a portrait pose looking away from the camera. The original paper news caption appears on the reverse, along with a date stamp that reads "Feb 20 1918." (It was believed Bender would return to the Phillies in 1918, but instead, he took a job in a shipyard to support America’s participation in World War I.) Images of Bender as a member of the Phillies are quite scarce in comparison to his years with the Athletics. The photo (6 x 8 inches) is in Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
