Description

Philadelphia National League Club stock certificate signed in blue ink along the base by team owner and president Robert R. M. Carpenter Jr. The certificate, dated March 7, 1961, confers 530 shares of capital stock to Carpenter's wife, Mary. In addition to Carpenter's signature, the certificate is signed by team secretary George Fletcher. The stock certificate is accompanied by an "Agreement" dated November 13, 1962, outlining restrictions on the transfer of shares by any family members (sons Ruly and Keith had received shares in separate transactions). In addition to being signed by Robert, Mary, and Ruly (Robert signed for Keith, who wasn't old enough to sign a legal document), the "Agreement" is also signed by four witnesses. The certificate (11-5/8 x 8-1/4 inches) displays two vertical folds, a stain along the bottom border, and a small tear along the right edge. Very Good condition overall.
