Lot # 591: 1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Original Mailing Envelope with Honus Wagner Plus Two W600 and W601 Advertising Displays

Presented is the original mailing envelope (9 x 6 inches) used by Sporting Life to send its M110 baseball cabinet cards to customers. The Sporting Life return address is boldly printed at the top and an illustration of a ball player (resembling Honus Wagner) in a batting stance is along the left side. It is interesting to note that the image used on this envelope is actually very similar to the final image that Sporting Life used to produce its M110 cabinet of Wagner. Addressed by hand to a "Mr. Grant Sines of Chelan, Wash" and postmarked. The fact that this envelope has survived for 115 years at all is very impressive, and to do so in exceptional condition is all the more remarkable. It displays beautifully and would be an extraordinary companion piece to any M110 Sporting Life cabinet card. Also included in the lot are two identical advertising displays/flyers promoting Sporting Life cards and premiums issued by the publication in the early 1900s. Each double-sided promotional piece features advertisements, checklists, and ordering instructions for two related Sporting Life sets: the W600 cabinet-card series (illustrated with W600 cabinet cards of Wagner, Mathewson, Young, and Lajoie) and the W601 Sporting Life team composite series (illustrated with an example of the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates team composite with Wagner). The displays are printed in blue on yellow-colored paper stock and measure 8.5 x 11 inches. One presents as Excellent, while the other has black ink marks on both sides and a small tear on the fold line, Fr condition. Advertising items relating to card sets from the early 1900s are extremely rare. Total: 3 items (one envelope and two advertising displays).
