Exceedingly rare fold-over scorecard for an 1884 National League game between the New York Gothams (Giants) and Cleveland Blues held at the Polo Grounds in New York. The colorful cover features an illustration of two generic ballplayers (batter and catcher), below which is the caption "Hit It On The Nose." The preprinted lineups include John Ward, Roger Connor, and Buck Ewing (substituted for Richardson) for New York, and George Pinkney, Doc Bushong, and Bill Phillips for Cleveland. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 9-7 win by New York. Research indicates that this game took place on August 27. The scorecard (7-3/8 x 5-7/8 inches; unfolded) has the date "August 27/84" written in pencil on the upper-left corner of a scoring page and evidence of a repair to a missing piece along the top edge. In Fair condition overall.
