Description

Pair of fold-over baseball scorecards issued for contests dating from the nineteenth-century. 1) 1887 Brooklyn (vs. Louisville) American Association Scorecard. The scorecard features a colorful illustration of a generic player on the cover, below which is the caption "Where Is It." Records an 11-7 Brooklyn victory on July 20, 1887. The date of the game is noted in pencil on the interior and has been verified by research. The preprinted lineups include Pinkney, McClelland, Swartwood, and Toole for Brooklyn, and Browning, Mack, Wolf, Kerins and Werrick for Louisville. The scorecard (8.75 x 7 inches; unfolded) has heavy creasing and tape repairs to large tears on the back cover. In Poor condition. 2) 1893 Augusta (vs. Charleston) Southern Association Scorecard. Records a 10-7 Charleston victory on July 8, 1893. The date of the game has been verified by research. The preprinted lineups include Denny, Everitt, Stallings, and Dooley for Augusta, and Carney, Wheelock, Hatfield, and McCarthy for Charleston. The scorecard (11-1/8 x 8-3/8 inches; unfolded) has heavy creasing, a chipped corner, and extensive writing on the back cover. In Poor condition. Total: 2 scorecards.
