Description

Exceedingly rare fold-over scorecard issued for a October 2, 1878, exhibition contest between the powerful Boston Red Stockings (also known as Red Caps), defending champions of the National League, and the Buffalo Bisons of the International League. Scorecards dating from just the third season in National League history are rare, especially those featuring games played by the Boston Red Stockings. The preprinted lineup for Boston features a number of significant players, including Hall of Famers George Wright and Jim O'Rourke, as well as John Morrill, Jack Burdock, and Andy Leonard. Pud Galvin highlights the Bisons lineup. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 9-5 Buffalo victory. An advertisement for Harry Wright's sporting goods store appears on the front cover, while instructions on how to score the game is printed on the back cover. The scorecard (5.75 x 7.25 inches; unfolded) displays general handing wear, including light, scattered toning and moderate creases. Extensive pencil notations appear on the front and back cover. In Very Good condition overall.
