Rare tin display box, dating from the early 1900s, that once housed packages of "Polar Chewing and Smoking Tobacco." Each of the side panels features a color illustration of a polar bear holding a large package of Polar Tobacco. The hinged front lid is lettered "Polar Bear Tobacco," while the front panel reads "Always Fresh." An illustrated image of a Polar Tobacco package also appears on the front panel. While we have handled porcelain signs issued in promotion of this tobacco brand, this is just the second large retail tin display we have ever offered. The box (18 x 14 x 12 inches) displays heavy wear, including dents, abrasions, scratches, and areas of rusting and oxidation. There is color added to the top right hinge, which is detached. The interior chain is detached from its side mounting clasp but included. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
