Description

Exceedingly rare Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Championship award issued in 1925. This is only the second example of this Pittsburgh Pirates championship pin we have ever offered (the first example we sold was designed into a ring). The white-gold pin features a white enamel center decorated in the form of a baseball with a crossed-bats design. Set on the enamel is a metallic depiction of the team logo and the year "1925" in gold. The lettering on the red and blue enamel along the perimeter reads "Pittsburgh Pirates - World Champions" in gold. Four diamonds are set as the bases on a field. Please note we are aware of two other examples of this particular pin that were offered at public auction over 20 years ago (Hall of Famer Max Carey and coach Jack Onslow), both were engraved on the reverse with text that reads "Presented by the Baseball Commissioner to..." This stunning piece of jewelry is a newly discovered example that originated from a non-collector. According to our consignor, this pin was presented to her as a thank you gift from an elderly woman for whom she was the caregiver and it has remained in her possession until now. All items relating to the Pirates' second World Championship in 1925 are scarce, but this pin is easily among the rarest we have encountered. The pin itself remains in exceptional condition, with little to no usage wear visible. Near Mint condition overall. Size: approximately 1 x 1 inch. Weight: approximately 10 grams.
