Description

Ty Cobb limited-edition silkscreen print by artist Mike Schacht (1936-2001), one of the baseball world's most highly acclaimed and instantly recognized artists. The print, which pictures the "Georgia Peach" with an intense stare on his face, is signed and dated by the artist in pencil on the lower right. The handwritten limitation number "69/200" appears in the lower left. When Schacht completed the original artwork to create this silkscreen in 1991, he offered these comments: "My decision to paint Ty Cobb was probably inspired by the attention given Pete Rose's game by game chase of Cobb's hit record. I attempted to capture his intensity and even his ruthlessness, mostly through his eyes. I took satisfaction in including the shape of a small horizontal lightning bolt over his left eye. I like to think this adds to Cobb's menace. I also was pleased with the particular tomato red background I selected, although I don't know why that choice seemed right." Michael Schacht has done work for both the Baseball Hall of Fame and Upper Deck during his long and distinguished career. Schacht was the featured artist in the 1993-1994 Baseball Hall of Fame Yearbook and his works have also appeared in Sports Illustrated , New York Magazine, Print magazine , Newsday, and The New York Daily News. The print (23 x 21 inches) is in apparent Near Mint condition and has been framed to total dimensions of 27.25 x 25.25 inches. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
