Description

Rare ticket stub from Game 5 of the 1909 World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers, held at the newly built Forbes Field in Pittsburgh on October 13. PSA has encapsulated the ticket and certified it as “Authentic.” This is one of only two 1909 World Series Game 5 ticket stubs authenticated by PSA. The Pirates' Babe Adams pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and defeated the Tigers by a score of 8-4 in Game 5. The Pirates eventually won the Series in seven games. The 1909 World Series marked the only time the two greatest players of the dead-ball era, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner, squared off against each other on the diamond, adding to the historical significance of this extremely early World Series ticket stub. The ticket (1.5 x 3.25 inches) displays heavy creasing and tape repairs throughout.
