This elegantly designed composite panorama, titled "A Yard of the National Game," was issued to commemorate the Chicago Cubs' 1913 season. This is one of several different "A Yard of the National Game" prints produced to honor the Cubs between the years 1907 and 1913, with each year's version featuring a similar design but with different photos and captions. All are scarce. This is just the second example of this particular version we have ever offered. The offered example features a majestic panoramic photograph of a Chicago Cubs game in progress in the center. Above the photo are individual, full-length images of 27 team members, each pictured in uniform, including player/manager Johnny Evers and Roger Bresnahan. Twenty-five of those players are pictured again, either below or next to the panoramic photo, posing together in small groups. Also included are portrait images of Charles Murphy (team president), Charles Thomas (team secretary), Johnny Evers (manager), and Charles Williams (team treasurer). A quartet of illustrated bears, in both the lower left and right corners, completes the attractive design. The text below the panorama reads "A Yard of the National Game/Home of the Record-Breaking Cubs/Champions of the National League-1906-1907-1908-1910 Champions of the World-1907-1908." Produced by E. T. Johnson & Co. (publisher of the Cubs' official scorecards), as noted in print along the base. The print (46 x 15 inches; visible dimensions) displays several creases and tape residue along the right edge. In apparent Very Good condition overall. Matted and framed to total dimension of 55 x 23 inches. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
