Description

Chicago White Sox regular-season program issued for a game against the Cleveland Indians held at Comiskey Park in 1920. Despite the fact that eight members of the Chicago White Sox had “thrown” the 1919 World Series, it wasn’t until the following year that the scandal finally broke. As the “Black Sox” took the field in 1920, they did so with a cloud over their heads. The preprinted lineups include Wambsganss, Speaker, Smith, and Chapman for Cleveland and seven of the eight White Sox players (either in the starting lineup or in the listing of the reserve players) who were later banned for life by Commissioner Landis in 1921 for fixing the 1919 World Series: Joe Jackson, Buck Weaver, Hap Felsch, Swede Risberg, Eddie Cicotte, Lefty Williams, and Fred McMullin. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 6-3 Chicago win. Research indicates that this game took place on June 25th. The program (6-1/8 x 9-1/4 inches), which has been professionally bound in tan cloth-covered boards, with the title and year stamped on both the cover and spine, has a vertical fold extending down the center. In apparent Very Good condition.
