Lot # 2468: 1911 New York Giants (vs. Philadelphia Athletics) World Series Game 3 Program

Large-format program issued for the third game of the 1911 World Series between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Athletics held at the Polo Grounds on October 17th. This is one of the scarcest World Series programs from the era and one that has always been highly prized by collectors. Giants owner John T. Brush is pictured on the cover. The interior pages include team photos of both clubs, as well as individual portrait photos of team and league officials. The preprinted lineups for each club include Doyle, Snodgrass, Merkle, Meyers, and Mathewson for New York, and Collins, Baker, Barry, Oldring, Davis, and Bender for Philadelphia. Neatly scored in pencil to record Philadelphia's 3-2 victory in 11 innings. Philadelphia eventually defeated the Giants in six games to capture the club's second consecutive World Championship. The program (9 x 11 inches) displays several condition issues, including but not limited to the front cover and several pages being completely detached from the spine, edge tears, and staining. Additionally, the back cover and some of the program's later pages are missing. Poor condition overall.
