Rare Roger Bresnahan Spalding "Autograph" signature-model bat (predating model numbers) dating from the 1912-1915 manufacturing period. Graded GU 6 by PSA/DNA. The bat has the Spalding logo stamped on the knob. According to PSA/DNA, the bat is "uncracked with evidence of outstanding use" and "some checking (grain) swelling from repeated ball contact is on the front barrel." Stamped above the center brand are the initials "H. McC.," which PSA/DNA attributes to Harry McCormick, a teammate of Bresnahan on the 1908 Giants. PSA/DNA concludes by stating that "After a thorough examination of this Roger Bresnahan pro mode/pro stock model bat and its played use characteristics, it is our opinion that our bat is authentic, and was used by Harry McCormick during the referenced labeling period." Bresnahan was one of the game's top catchers during the early 1900s, with his best years coming as a member of the New York Giants. Bresnahan's final three seasons in the Major Leagues (1913-1915) were spent with the Cubs. Bresnahan died in 1944 and wasn't elected to the Hall of Fame until 1945. Bresnahan pro-model bats are rare. This is one of only a few examples we have seen at auction (all were Spalding models; we have never seen or heard of a surviving H&B model). Length: 32.5 inches. Weight: 38.8 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (a corresponding sticker is affixed to the handle). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
