Description

Rare Paul Waner Hanna Batrite signature-model bat (predating model numbers) dating from the circa 1930 manufacturing period. Graded GU 7 by PSA/DNA. According to PSA/DNA, the bat "exhibits evidence of outstanding use with a handle crack that has been secured by tape" and "some checking (grain) swelling from repeated ball contact is on the front barrel." PSA/DNA concludes by stating that "After a thorough examination of this Paul Waner professional model bat and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion the bat is authentic and was game used by Waner during the referenced labeling period." Paul, nicknamed "Big Poison," was the older and harder-hitting brother of Lloyd Waner ("Little Poison"), both of whom terrorized National League pitchers as members of the Pittsburgh Pirates for nearly two decades beginning in 1926. Paul Waner batted over .300 on fourteen separate occasions and won three batting titles over the course of his 20-year career. He retired in 1945 with a lifetime average of .333 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1952. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 35.8 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (a corresponding sticker is affixed to the handle). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
