Collection of forty-six photos (including five panoramas) chronicling the construction of the original Yankee Stadium, which was built from 1922 to 1923. Together, the series of photographs documents the rapid rise of "The House That Ruth Built." In what can only be described as a miracle of both engineering and labor, Yankee Stadium was constructed in less than a year, with the groundbreaking taking place just 284 days before its opening on April 18, 1923. The stadium was designed by the Osborne Engineering Company of Ohio, and the construction was executed by the White Construction Company of New York. According to our consignor, these photos were given as a gift to his father, who was a physician. They were gifted to him by one of his patients who knew our consignor's father was a lifelong Yankee fan. The patient’s own father apparently was involved in the construction of the stadium in the 1920s in some capacity (likely with White Construction Company). Several of the photos appear to have originated directly from the files of White Construction Company, as its name is printed on the base. The credit stamp of New York photographer Howard Cox appears on the reverse of twenty-seven photos, including each of the panoramas. The photos range in size from 3-7/8 x 7-3/8 to 19 x 7-1/2 inches, with the great majority measuring around 10 x 8 inches. The photos, many of which are linen-backed, range from Poor to Excellent condition overall. Accompanied by the original binder cover. Total: 47 items (46 photos and 1 original binder cover).
