Graded VG/EX 4 by SGC. Real-photo postcard of decorated American athlete and Olympic gold medalist Jim Thorpe. Thorpe is pictured in track-and-field attire, in a sprinter's pose. The printed caption along the base reads "James Thorpe (Indian)/From The Carlisle School/The World's Champion Athlete." Although the card is undated and bears no postmark, it can be pinpointed to around the year 1912, as Thorpe was still enrolled at the Carlisle School and was training for the 1912 Summer Olympics, where he ultimately competed in a number of track-and-field events. The postcard (3 x 5 inches), which has not been addressed or mailed, displays superb clarity and honest corner wear.
